The latest version of Busview is "07-12-2004". Here is a list of Busview releases, in reverse chronological order. Note that this list is for information purposes only. Due to the applet nature of Busview and our Web server configuration, only the latest version is available for download. There are no public links to earlier versions.

07-12-2004

This release is a maintenance release, with improved web server cookie handling. One minor change in the Busview applet is that the colors used for the vector style maps (http://busview.org/busview_launch.jsp?maps=ser) now mimic the default gif-style maps.

07-08-2002

In this new Busview release, two types are background map are available. These are vector based maps and image based maps. Up until this release, all maps have been vector based. The new image based maps contain embedded street names and feature a water body layer. To run Busview with the new maps, see here.

06-25-2001.1

In this new Busview release, map frames are resizable. For instance, you can maximise the frame to fill your desktop and the map view will expand. Or place Busview on your desktop with just a road of interest in view.

10-23-2000.1

This release includes a new Busview feature called map zooming. Up until now, all Busview map views have been of a one square mile area. It is now possible to view an area of four miles square, i.e. a two by two mile area. This ability to view an area at different elevations is commonly known as zooming. The user interface for zooming is via the "Scale" menu option on the main window menu bar.

This release includes a new Busview feature. There are now direct links from Busview to a bus arrival prediction web site called MyBus. Currently there are seven links to MyBus: at the UW Campus Hub, at University Way NE and NE 45th St, at Kingsgate P+R, at Boeing Renton, at Northgate Transit Center, at Bellevue Transit Center, and at Seatac Airport. Click on the icon and your browser will jump to the MyBus web site.

This release is a maintenance release, with improved web server stability. The functionality of the applet is unchanged from the previous release, 02-05-2000.1.

02-05-2000.1

This release is a maintenance release, with improved handling in the server of cookies sent by the browser relating to user map history. Also fixed a bug in the bus cache on the server. The functionality of the applet is unchanged from the previous release, 01-06-2000.1.

01-06-2000.1

This release is a maintenance release, which incorporates improved socket connection handling in the Web server. The functionality of the applet is unchanged from the previous release, 12-21-1999.1.

12-21-1999.1

This release improves the error reporting of Busview when it is launched in a browser without the required level of Java support. In the case of a launch failure, the user is directed to a new HTML page which explains the error. The functionality of a successfully launched applet is unchanged from the previous release, 11-22-1999.1.

11-22-1999.1

This release differs only very slightly from the previous release. It includes slightly different logic pertaining to the AVL status message which appears in each Busview frame. Previously Busview would display "No Server, Trying To Connect" as the status message, even though the server was available but no AVL data was streaming. The message "Data Unavailable, Awaiting New Data" is now displayed instead when this scenario occurs. This version also fixes a bug in the visual route filtering feature, which was failing to show or hide buses as the Apply checkbox was activated.

11-18-1999.1

This release is a maintenance release, which improves the robustness of the Web server at times when the AVL data stream is temporarily unavailable. The functionality of the applet is unchanged from the previous release, 11-04-1999.1.

11-04-1999.1

The major enhancement in version 11-04-1999.1 is the ability to bookmark selected map locations, enabling a user to store "My House" for example. After navigating to a desired location (using either map scrolling via the direction buttons NSEW, map panning by dragging the map, or map selection from the pre-named locations list Maps|Select Pre-Named Location), select Maps|Bookmark Current Location and name the location. To later edit the bookmark list, see Maps|Edit Bookmarked Locations. The 'default' bookmarked location is that location which will appear the next time you run Busview.

The bookmarked list of locations are stored on your computer in the form of a browser 'cookie', so please ensure your browser is configured to accept cookies from this site. Without cookie support, a default set of locations appears in the bookmark list, with the default location being "UW - Main Campus".
